Based on the highly successful win(TM) kernel, IxWorks is a lightweight, scalable, and resource-efficient real-time operating system implementing the Intelligent I/O specification and tuned for the i960(R) RP/RD processors.

Supports peer-to-peer communications, enabling two IxWorks-based systems to talk to one another without intervention for greater offloading of the CPU

Manages hierarchical driver modules and inter-service routines, such as network management and RAID control algorithms
